I wonder if magic is even used up in Noah's mindscape escapades. Maybe a future encounter will be solved by the classic 'Oh, I can do whatever I want in the surreal plane' and thus our boy's evolution would come in the form of him gradually being able to do that in the real world

Noah's hands were wrecked in real world after the cow dream, so using magic in the mindscape probably does drain his real spirit, yes.

As far as I understand, the mindscapes he explores with his powers are essentially fully real places. They might not be directly connected to regular reality, but Noah sure is.
