Between being the envoy of the black crystal that jeopardized the people most qualified to stop this nightmare, and the grey child telling Noah he could have stopped all this easily, he probably feels a fair amount of guilt about the entire situation. Mix that with teenage vibes and just about anybody will go "alright maybe I should learn how to use terrifying powers beyond my imagination".

The end of the world will do that to your motivation, I guess.
How did Noel put it? "People can surprise you in a dire situation like this. Those that don't usually don't survive."

What's the likelyhood of his current desires also matching the requests that were made of him by, I can't remember his name, the "Grey Boy" or something?

And all it took was a massive amount of trauma and a long period of being unable to act.
I wonder what he'll do when this is over though..

Can Noah use his wish power to heal himself? That should be the first thing you would do in a situation like this.

@Tom Maybe? He spent a lot of time living his "dream". No interaction with anyone, no expectations, just being dragged around by others. That probably made him evaluate some life choices.

You know, if it all comes to down to it. Despite the catastrophe that this operation of 'Capture Malhart' was. It may have a very well saved the Empire.
Sure, Malhart was preparing his own contingency in case when he would be no longer able to contain Chernyl. But so did the Nightmares were preparing to counter them. Given a few years this entire thing would be a several times worse and Malhart's Orphans would end just like Empire's group did now. With extreme difficulty and casualties they would get to Chernyl only to fall in trap of mighty nightmare, unable to actually stop Chernyl's powers.
Except they wouldn't have Noah to enter her mind for possible way to save the day.
