Ballnom

You won't crack THIS ball!

This reminds me of all those fight videos where the guy who's always talking cocky ends up getting his stuff push in.

29459: Zed - Monday, January 10 2022 - 10:18 PM

Haha, I called it.

Not that I had any proof and it was essentially a 50/50 guess but I totally called it.

29460: Abbie - Monday, January 10 2022 - 11:18 PM

Doesn't magic use attract more of them?

29461: Joe - Monday, January 10 2022 - 11:18 PM

Heā€™s not gonna faint from nose blood loss again I hope hehehe

29462: Saiko - Monday, January 10 2022 - 11:49 PM

Don't overdo this Noah, or you turn into Mr.Slimeball.

29463: Ecthel - Tuesday, January 11 2022 - 12:04 AM

Did Noah just manage to defend himself ???? Good job !
I'm still expecting this to go horribly wrong at some point though.

@fan
That hardly fits Noah, though.

I'm wondering. Is the shield that much weaker, or are these things just way stronger than the fliers?

29465: Nanashi - Tuesday, January 11 2022 - 12:38 AM

GGs, Noah

I'm expecting something in the line of offensive defense by the sound that shield is making, as in the nightmare will try to pull away only to lose its teeth (or the whole head) while trying.

Noah, you're not Luigi, you can't win by doing nothing.
You have to supplement your shield with other stuff, running away or offensive magic or something.

29468: Aston Whiteman - Tuesday, January 11 2022 - 4:11 AM

Noah wil explode the ball this finding more personal agency and becoming a walking magic bomb.

He still needs some form of lazy attack!

29469: Tom - Tuesday, January 11 2022 - 4:31 AM

Noah used Harden!

29470: Zed - Tuesday, January 11 2022 - 7:48 AM

@Abbie
It's not magic itself, but "anything the nightmares notice & deem as a bigger threat worth targeting". So if anything, Nail going around on a killing spree is more likely to get nightmares on their tail than Noah playing super monkey ball.

These many tiny bubbles and the bzwaaa-sound seem a bit dangerous.

But Noah is not that bad in this forced learning-by-doing session :)

@Some guy
The last ball had the guy with the glasses help renforce it, this one is weaker bc its just noah and its like his 3rd time making one, while last time the esper was buffing them

That does not follow, though it might be right.

The first time Noel asked Noah to construct a ball of spirit around himself, which he did, and Noel then changed it into a shield.

Then Nail pointed out that Noel's powers were line of sight, so the the shield bubble was most likely mostly Noah's doing. (Though he might be wrong.)

Throughout this Noah didn't do anything consciously that we know of to strengthen the shield.

The second time, afer Nail tossed Noah to give him the right incentive, a surprised Noah created a shield mid-flight which shattered on crash landing.

The third time, Noah created the shield himself under controlled circumstances, and he is actively reinforcing it.

I don't see how we have anywhere near enough information to conclude whether this newest creation is any weaker or stronger than the one he made with Noel's help and sustained without Noel's presence. Both would fit narratively, depending on which way the author takes it.

And thus did Noah find his true calling as a hamster in a hamsterball.

29479: Sandman366 - Tuesday, January 11 2022 - 8:07 PM

@Deliverence
The original shield bubble may have just been Noel changing the shape of the spirit ball and Noah (possibly unconsciously) maintaining it's existence, not actually intentionally doing anything with it.

However, between seeing/feeling it be done, and the experience making a shield as to not break parts of his face when Nail threw him, not to mention the do-or-die (or worse) situation, he's quickly learning how to keep physical injuries off of himself.
