While I don't recall seeing any in the comic, we have seen rifles in use in Justopia, so it would not be surprising if they have shotguns too and that the expression "riding shotgun" in the comic as applied to cars had the same in-comic etymology in Justopia as it does in real life.

One loser all the way back in Gang Rule Town had a shotgun. It looks like they aren't common in this part of the world, but people know about them in principle.
