Okay, so Burk is definitely bitter about this. I mean, it's certainly not a "heroic victory" in the Burkian sense of the expression, it's just, as Burk says, not the worst outcome to this whole expidition. Heck, he got a Cool Guy out of it, so it's definitely a net win in that sense... But, yeah, he's not leaving Eddstadt in the kinda glorious fashion he's used to, that's for sure.

Huh, that was good enough for him.

It really mattered to Burk that no one in his team died.

Also, his balls.

Ah, one of those moments of shocking clarity that makes us question just how smart he is.

It's not just good, it's good enough.

Burk clearly knows he's in way over his head if he tries to continue after being hit in the head hard enough to be out of it for multiple panels like that.

Folks, Burk's normal attitude is an act. His true character is seen the few times he reveals secrets. He is actually a very rational person, even if he wants with all his heart to be an uncompromising hero.

Burk has some solid priorities.

I like how Burk is weirdly grim and rational, but still concerned about the painting.
