Shut up Akriad and make notes.
Maybe they'll survive, at least.

No Akraid, Valiant really shouldn't be risking being that close to black water. Makes me wonder if this is before it was widely known how dangerous black water is.

...the "author" comment has me very worried right now. I suspect the outside of the temple would seem very different if they were to go outside.

@Datren I think at this point they don't know about Black Water. The story of the Blackwater Prince (page 3000 ff) it refers to it as "new and relatively unknown poison". And the story is set "decades" into Vallan's rule. On this page we are in 2346, and in 2344 Theo still refers to Vallan as a "magic warlord from the Lost Continent" (page 3403), and is surprised that the papers recognize him as "king".
By the way, this means Theo and Held might be present at court when the story of the Blackwater Prince takes place.

Kicking and touching your experiment. Truly the scientific method. Lick it next.

Fools! Everyone knows you should carry a 10 foot pole around just for this.
And a hireling to use the pole.
And a makeshift barricade 50 feet away where you hide behind to gain full cover and a bunch of crossbows readied.

The gate must have been stuck. It just needed a good kick or two.

"a makeshift barricade [just] 50 feet[!!!] away" has cost many a hero their life. What do they thing scrying devices are for?!

Note that Held is the only one here not standing in the splash zone if that container breaks.

@MJBarr
Do we HAVE to carry the hireling or can we let them walk on their own?
Omens, huh. So what do they end up unleashing?
