The only thing Levin is honest about is that he admits he cannot be trusted. He merely asserts that the same is true for everyone else and they're hypocritical about it, while he is proud of being a backstabbing bastard.

A thief believes everyone steals; a liar believes everyone is lying; a cheater believes everyone is cheating. All of them believe that they are the only honest person because they don't deny that they steal, lie, and cheat.

I do think it's bizarrely foolish for Shalhia to go in first and not make him lead, though I guess I can justify it as "she's still loopy from the Black Crystal stuff". If Jay-Jay follows her, that's when it feels like they had to be dumbed down for Levin's extremely obvious ploy to work. If it's a ploy, it's one that shouldn't have worked.

I assume she's thinking she can block/engulph whatever danger Levin might have set up.
