The number of apples counted down to 138 in panel #1 from the 139 it was on the previous three pages and you were looking towards the panel but failed to notice.

The paladin, 3, and the silent man were also looking in that direction, and if the paladin or 3 noticed they haven't seen fit to communicate their concern.

Hopefully the silent man noticed and that's what he wants to tell the others.

Given how often that guy speaks up, i think this is gonna be important

Aha. So you are playing the trading game straight so far, I guess.

And here I was thinking that perhaps a secret rule was in place for the trading game, just as we've seen secret rules for killing - e.g. "one of the players is allowed to eat apples for a major cash reward" or something equally surprising, breaking the established rules.

Did everyone also have their backs to him when it was the time to raise hands to add fruit to personal balances?
As for *how* someone could trade an extra apple, isn't it as simple as putting a chip physically inside the case in addition to the one in the slot?
Actually, it's even easier than that: They haven't been loading the chips into the slots until they're in the trading area, so the team may not even have been able to check the number of outgoing apples. Though maybe they have been watching each other in the orchard.

I mean, the obvious answer to me is that the score displayed is a lie engineered to make the red team turnon each other
