Anyone know why it didn't work?

No reason I can think of but it won't stop me from guessing.

1)Levin's rule could prevent him from being removed in this fashion. (I don't think we ever learned it.).

2)We saw the body of one host (although that might have been the compromised employee they got rid of) so maybe nobody is able to hear the request.

3) Maybe the two really were soul mates and now that one is dead the other is eliminated from the game even though they are still alive.

4) The whole game aspect has been a misdirection from the beginning and Smile bends the rules as they see fit, such as conveniently not hearing a request to vote Levin out.

Is that Levin‘s gun?

Could be that the ones pulling the strings have truly lost control of the game, could be their personal rules were wrong.

Smile's researchers might be dead.

@Inoyinoy I have two thoughts on the matter. Either the Smile operative who could reply is dead (since we've been shown the corpse of one already and the fact the new Ghoul cleric has leveled a couple times implies he's killed more than one person) or they are very invested in Levin's survival (Three's attempt to put Levin to vote as reward for winning a round was ignored on the grounds of Smile not recognizing the hand signs even though that got translated after and they have cameras everyone so would have seen Three and Tobi create them).

Either Smile doesn't have audio (unlikely), the vote rules don't apply to the maze section (to avoid allowing the players to leave), she isn't the #1 player (most likely)...
Or judging from a previous comic, most of the employees in charge of the Smiles are dead now.

I think the secret rule is misleadingly worded. When they say "a player may initiate a vote," they mean "a specific player"—the one currently in the lead—not just anyone.

On page 2158, Fox and Tobi vote to interrogate Levin, but Green is able to overrule them.

It's possible that smile now considers "Blue" to be a dead player, leaving Shalhia as a wild card, no longer part of the game.

Probably cause everyone running this game is now dead.

My guess the soul mates thing means she has technicly lostor is considered dead by smile, even though she still lives.

Options for why there wasn't a response:

1. Shalhia the Paladin isn't a player anymore. As Blue has "left the game"
2. Smile is inactive (probably due to ghoul).
3. The vote occurs later, not immediately.

It might not have worked because it says 'A player', not any player, just a player. In other words one specific player holds that power, probably whoever had the most money.

Is that Levin's gun? Was he killed too?

I think since she wasn't the actual original Blue she may not have rulings in the game anymore. She's considered 'dead'now.

Two possibilities come to mind.
She counts as "dead" and thus can't make a vote, or;
Levin has some kind of vote immunity, and is (partly) why he's been a massive prick this entire time (he is also a massive prick).

@Tracer : Jay Jay had Levin's gun. It's in a remarkably good shape since its bearer has been splattered all over the room.

If Jay Jay is alive and the person who died is Levin, that would explain why the vote didn't trigger and the not-soulmate part as well :)

I suppose it's also possible that the vote did work, but the host is under no obligation to announce it? So it's 1 for, everyone else undecided right now.

Foxy tried to holler at Smile earlier and got no response. It's maybe listening, but there's no obvious tech to display its big smiley face.

I'm gonna guess they CAN initiate a vote at any time Smile can hear them, but there's no microphones or cameras in the black water containment rooms, due to the illegality of black water mining.

@Flangan We see the paladin make it clear to Maria, on page 2487, that if Maria did anything duplicitous, she would kill her. Levin just blatantly murdered another player, so this isn't really out of nowhere.

ohhhh, it's the weapon she's holding. Is she considering using it? She showed that she CAN use regular fighting abilities against others without problems.

Its also possible that a rule of some sort keeps Levin specifically from being voted on, given how Smile pretended not to understand 3's desire to vote for Levin earlier.

I don't buy the "all smile is dead" theory - someone just announced that a player is dead and revealed his rule after all.

Among other ways, all players together can agree to put someone to the voting room. Only after all players gather up on their own and state their will Smile would announce that vote was initiated.

Other ways would be a change on #1 position and new leader deciding on someone (https://www.neorice.com/hoh_tobi_1231) and possibly there being "a player" given privilege to start the vote at any time (https://www.neorice.com/hoh_tobi_4107)
