Perhaps the appearance of Tobi bolstered Baku's confidence because he values her support/feedback. What I find interesting is that he mentions that he will make her proud, as opposed to vice-versa. This could imply that A. Tobi is a strong, confident character whose regard is valuable; and B. Baku is feeling insecure due to the remarks about Delhara.
