I actually think that none of them will go for it. If Mrs Paladin would go for it, I would consider it out of character. She probably smiles because of how obvious Mr Smile is trying to cause death.

The only way I see either of them surviving (at least temporarily) would be if they are fast enough to jump up the ledge and thus not be on the death carpet anymore

Small question... How long has this week been going? I tend to lose track of time, but this week seems to be running a bit longer than I expected. This is odd, as "time flies when you're having fun" and I THOUGHT that this week was fun, but maybe my sense of fun is miscalibrated?
