It seems they made Lina the scapegoat for this disaster. But to be fair, if someone deserved to be the scapegoat, it's Lina.

i mean.. she did call in an anti-magic sniper to neutralize the one person holding Chernyl's powers back.

and everyone working for her would've be put to death for disobeying her.

huh, we still don't know what she is, plus nail is still in the picture (probably), so I don't think Veda is actually in trouble right now.

@ Baprr: Honestly, given what we've seen Veda survive, even executing her with a gold-edged weapon wouldn't really count as her being in "trouble".

Anyway, I'm surprised that Veda hasn't fled the Empire after the Haven fiasco. If she was capable. I suppose she's a shapeshifter and can regenerate missing bits and parts.

Knowing what kinds of things go on under this empire, it may well even be a fake trial where they do all this as a show and then quietly ship Veda back home.

@Saiko: Noah in bed with another person? Only if he's completely passed out. I mean, the last time we saw him, he was shouting "bad touch" because a girl had her arm around his shoulders.

Personally, I can't wait to see Ciel again, I'm curious about her transformation and what it is that she "now understands".

While she absolutely deserves almost all of the blame for the Haven incident, Veda's guilt is probably very bad news for the children (and Mr. Kimberly) who were under the auspices of her project... A lot were probably either too injured or psychologically unwilling to slip away to Malhart's group in the aftermath... Noah's probably all right, at least, if he's sleeping in.

I'm guessing she'll stay in some hidden facility still working for the empire, pretending to be imprisoned for life.

The form under the blanket does seem larger than when we first saw it all the way back in chapter 2... though obviously this could be just an art-style change. (The bed itself also seems to be a bit larger)

Not that she doesn't deserve it (even though she isn't solely culpable but eh the empire needs its scapegoats for the screwups) but I hope this conviction is for appearances' sake or the magic users of the empire just found themselves in a worse position.

Though on the other hand they proved themselves quite useful so it might not be so bad.

I'm going to think in another direction. This seems to convinient. Therefore I call this is not the reality, but a 'good dream' of Cheryl [and Noah], given by the Hallow-Man to now keep both of them out of the picture.

Some pages later Noah will see through this because it is too good to be true.

Was Linda present at the trial or was it a trial in absent, and what ... alternative facts is the empire telling about the "incident" in Haven?

See, I'm totally down with the idea of it being both Noah and Chernyl under there, just not like THAT. He offered to help her with her nightmares. When you're a kid, how do you deal with that? By sleeping with someone (your parents, generally, but the idea is there).

@ Syhkane: I doubt that "framed paintings of the Emperor" specifically are compulsory. However, I expect that some level of Emperor Memorabilia is socially required, even if not strictly mandatory. With a framed painting of the emperor being on the least intrusive side of things.

Remember, Felix is carrying around a full-blown statue of the Emperor, simply because he could do so easily.

Honestly, given what the plot has said about people being tortured 20 years ago, I suspect that The Emperor is actually a decent ruler, who is trying to get their country to advance to current world standards in a manner that doesn't panic their populace. Aka, militarizing the magic users to ensure that they're sectioned off and under observation, while also being trained and not becoming bitter to the fact that they're sectioned off and under observation.

if veda is actually dead, wouldn't that be pretty bad for all the magic kids who only survived because of the veda project? actually is everyone from that project still alive? like what happened to everyone back at base while noah and friends went off to go stop the nightmare? we know some people survived (like catz and the people he talked to) but did everyone survive? though i guess we'll find out pretty soon, and i doubt any of the magic kids died offscreen unless we get a flashback to when their death happened or something

One slight benefit of Veda being convicted is it decreases the chance of justopea finding out what Noah’s power is. Less people to potentially snitch

I wouldn't be surprised if Veda can shapeshift and just comes back as someone else.
