So instead, try to get away by going to where Chernyl's presence is the faintest, and she's the one that will reach you.

They do have some clue or saving grace; when they split up before, Noel reunited with the others without issue. Either the pathways are stable, even if the directions are weird, or the can at least force stability on the maze by only ever going one room ahead with part of the group, then having the "scout" return.

Maybe it's just because 3 and 5 are odd, but
maybe it's like Old Maid, where 2 then 4 of the paths loop back on themselves while only one actually goes onwards to the next part of the maze.
