So I'm only now realizing (I'm de dumb) that the hat on "daddy" is like Malhart's, so it appears that this nightmare is a manifestation of the real Malhart into a twisted form, one that takes care of kids but only if they are good.
Makes me wonder what life was like under Malhart's care in the real world; I suspect he tried to protect the children in earnest, but maybe it was harsher then outside perception would see?

He is making it sound like she is comatose or something similar. Dreaming nonstop might explain the surge in her powers.

@Otter Claw good catch.

@Otter Claw Yeah, I was getting heavy Fagin and Artful Dodger vibes from him and his orphans. They’re spread out throughout the city to keep an eye out for any new magic users and recruit them by any means necessary. Looks nice until you realise the home life is almost certainly neglectful, abusive, or both.
Better than what they could expect from Justopea, though.

@The_Squished_Elf actually, I agreed to the explanation that is based on "Cheryl's initial perception" of Malhart, and the fact that he had to be quit strict with her so she could learn to control her powers.
It may be wrong, but he didn't give off a "taskmaster" vibe to me.
Oh, poor Chernyl. I guess that explains why she doesn't just kill herself.
Crap... so Chernyl is NOT okay at the center of it, she's being fought over by her strongest nightmares as though she has no agency at all.
The Scleramancer? Eye can see how that would be trouble.
Dual boss fight incoming? I can't wait to see Neorice's design for them. :D
"Sclera"mancer... sounds related to the creepy building eyes after Malhart got shot. The hand that grabbed Veda had eyes attached too.
This gets worse by the second.
At least we have the names of the ones at the core of it.
Suddenly I wonder if Veda set the Scleramancer and Hallowman against each other in a desperate play of her own.
He's a lower nightmare?
Poor Daddy. When did he get a hug last time?
yo
is it time
is it time to recruit t h e s q u a d
(and by squad I mean Catz, and everyone in a single flock behind him cheering on the main character going into battle)
