It's much darker in there without the benefit of being in spirit form.
In fact, it's so dark I almost didn't notice the EXAMPLE TEXT.
(I guess one of the children must have a power which produces that. :P)

Kinda reminds me of that scene in LoTR where the Ring Wraiths enter the Prancing Pony to murder the ever-loving shit out of the Hobbits...

I have a suspicion they're all just drawn on the walls in -perfect- 3D, and that they're just a perfect optical illusion. We haven't seen the magic paint used for any -active- tricks yet, at least no confirmed instances of that.
