So which one of them used the nightshade? Did Vonesperda use it to make Morty unable to fight back, or did Morty use it on himself?

I'm leaning towards Morty. He stopped floating as soon as it appeared, and those horn-like protrusions vanished. This could indicate Vonesperda's control weakening.

I take it that ONE of the two of them, if not both, have used one of the stolen powers to produce a "temporary" puppet of the other (using a skill intended to defeat weak enemies & evacuate civilians who would otherwise panic or be in the way in a safe manner, of course).

In the case of them both being puppets, they may be stuck in limbo, as neither can give orders.
