Eh ... where?

A pile of confused villagers.

Burk like defeating evil but this, this is about as heroic as we've seen Burk and it's nice to see him like this. I am distantly reminded of a rough drawing informing a "hero" to be friends with the village they were to be protecting.

(I might be forgetting some of the heroic Burk stuff in the middle)

37543: Robotumus - Wednesday, June 28 2023 - 4:41 PM

Cowboy hat pedestrian looks like they might be important, maybe a hero

37544: Dubu - Wednesday, June 28 2023 - 4:47 PM

With all the stuff, I forgot Burk was heroic for a moment.

37545: Orange - Wednesday, June 28 2023 - 4:55 PM

To be fair, the bystanders don't seem to have much regard for themselves either.

37546: nameless - Wednesday, June 28 2023 - 7:07 PM

Well, if they were running away they wouldn't be bystanders, for lack of standing by.

37547: Mystik - Wednesday, June 28 2023 - 7:14 PM

@Baron, I believe that Burk wanted to defeat the Mage-Baron guy because he was "villanous." I think that Burk just historically has poor target selection.

37548: Belak - Wednesday, June 28 2023 - 7:46 PM

Ooh, yeah, this is part of Burk’s bit.
Well, the Burking will continue once these people learn to run. Ooor Burk somehow moves them all away, since half of them just refuse to move on their own.

37549: Sporf - Wednesday, June 28 2023 - 8:56 PM

It was also important to Burk that Logan, the "Hero" from the first story actually start giving a crap and saving people as opposed to whatever it was Logan was otherwise doing (which was jack all and being smug about it). Burk actually does want to help people, but he also really enjoys fighting. Fighting heroes is fun and challenging and Burk loves it, but fighting villains let's him indulge in both of his hobbies at once.

And yet all the other bystanders are just standing and staring. I feel like this kind of battle between magic users would be like the fantasy equivalent of a gang shootout on the streets. I would be hauling ass.

37551: Paintr - Thursday, June 29 2023 - 1:50 AM

I know it'll be a long ways off but I'm interested to learn how Burk's Moral compass got formed.

37552: Gorzag - Thursday, June 29 2023 - 2:34 AM

Wow, the bystanders REALLY are painted blue. :P

37553: Melany - Thursday, June 29 2023 - 5:06 AM

Burk just keeps insulting people left and right, my god.

The fact that nobody else can see Vonney might be part of the reason the bystanders are still bystanding, though after that particular display most people should be running regardless of whether they can see it's source or not.

37554: The Someoner - Thursday, June 29 2023 - 6:39 AM

Easy!

37555: Sean - Thursday, June 29 2023 - 10:03 AM

The fact that the background characters are still just blue...

37556: Thursday - Thursday, June 29 2023 - 10:25 AM

Oh! Idea
What if every single bystander is actually the result of a power of a certain hero whose power is to create blue background characters all over the place

they're there to both spy on everybody in town and to keep actual civilian casualties to a minimum

37557: Tom - Thursday, June 29 2023 - 10:32 AM

It's been a long ride, but we finally see Burk being a hero... in Hero Land.

37558: UnknownID - Thursday, June 29 2023 - 12:00 PM

Burk for rescue! :D
A true villain for a true hero ^^

37559: player_03 - Thursday, June 29 2023 - 1:47 PM

@Thursday Now that you mention it, I don't think we've seen the faded blue style anywhere but Eddstadt.

If so, the first page we saw them was hoh_1364, in the House of Hero. One of the hosts is shaded blue as well, though that might not mean much.

More importantly, the past few pages confirmed that they're solid and can talk, ruling out simple illusions. More likely, Guido didn't want to have to redraw that many sprites for 1-2 pages. Either that or he did try recoloring them but found the sudden change too jarring.

37560: player_03 - Thursday, June 29 2023 - 1:51 PM

@Thursday Oh yeah, and there already is a hero with distributed bodies spying on everything. No need for a second.

These are just bystanders with no self-preservation.

37561: Guest - Thursday, June 29 2023 - 2:34 PM

Wow, just look at the face of that guy at the bottom of the stack, he is perfectly suited to being a donkey.

37562: Melany - Thursday, June 29 2023 - 3:37 PM

We've seen the "faded bystander" style before in Lorg, though they were shaded red there.

37563: Sporf - Thursday, June 29 2023 - 11:29 PM

@Melany. Are we sure nobody can see Vonny here?
