The winner is Burk!

You asked for this, Pablo.

22923: Guest - Monday, July 27 2020 - 12:52 AM

Was Nightshade expecting a comments section?

22924: someone - Monday, July 27 2020 - 1:24 AM

Oh hey, lawyer dude isn't one-eyed. His perpetual squint made me think he was.

Turns out that the Zero Chance Hero had zero chance against Burk.

22925: Tor - Monday, July 27 2020 - 1:39 AM

And if Paplo had head the specific terms of the wager he would know this was the worst outcome.
Thats a -lot- of unwanted attention his little team got there.

It does also seems like both Skybreaker i think, and Nightshade, are up to stuff. Or at least, both of them are perceptive, and noticed something going on.

22926: SilentWrangler - Monday, July 27 2020 - 1:44 AM

Silverman's apparently starts working as a replacement. His facepalm is pure gold. Just the reaction we need while Goldman temporarily can't react.

22927: stev - Monday, July 27 2020 - 1:56 AM

He ded

22928: Brilliand - Monday, July 27 2020 - 2:19 AM

"So apparently the Top did send someone capable, who could not only beat you in a fight, Mr. Goldman, but also nullify your ability to check your chances of winning."

22929: giovanni - Monday, July 27 2020 - 2:36 AM

who is the one in the background crowd that is of a different color? the one in a panel with silverman?
feels important

22930: Chris E. - Monday, July 27 2020 - 2:41 AM

I wonder whether 'the Leader' referred to by Silverman is just Goldman or someone else.

Ultimately it was naive of Goldman and his team to think that this wasn't going to happen if they believe Burk was sent by the Heroland Top. After all, Goldman is only a White Star *rookie* and isn't even the highest-ranked in Eddstadt. I guess he's just used to being a big fish in a small pond.
On the other hand, it does draw public attention to Burk as not just being a tourist, so kind-of achieves something similar to what Goldman expected from arresting Burk and forcing the Heroland Top to reveal things to get him released. Though this doesn't reveal anything very specific - it just shows that he isn't a normal tourist.

Meanwhile, the Eddstadt Heroland executives were already very interested in Burk, so the attention he has just attracted probably isn't making as much difference as Pablo imagines. (Maybe it still helps them to *find* Burk, though actually it's vaguely surprising they weren't alerted the instant he stepped inside the House of Hero. Perhaps the Wu-Cha/Mini-Cha network automatically regards information on Burk's movements as classified.)

22931: Woodledude - Monday, July 27 2020 - 2:43 AM

There is a L O T going on here. Holy cow.

Skybreaker is CLEARLY not surprised by any of this, and is also clearly hiding a lot, and possibly having a chuckle at Nightshade, while also potentially suspecting Nightshade of... Things.

Silverman is working for someone other than Goldman. I think Silverman is the go-between between Goldman's group and someone else. The Pompadour hero? The Eddstat heads? The Heroland top? I don't know, but I find it hard to believe he's just talking about Goldman.

And Pablo is realizing how utterly, terribly screwed they all are, while Burk just basks in his glory. To be fair, everyone's utter shock is just perfect.

22932: Woodledude - Monday, July 27 2020 - 2:45 AM

@giovanni That would be the Scarecrow Hero, I believe. A lot of the heroes we met over in the Hero... Bar? Tavern? Anyway, we met some heroes over there, and a lot of them made their way over here. Maybe important, but we have no particular indication of that. Currently, we can suspect they're special/different simply by virtue of being a Hero.

22933: A Loquacious Theorizer - Monday, July 27 2020 - 2:52 AM

@giovanni that is Silent, the Silent Hero.
I believe that crossed arms and closed eyes when laying down can signify death, but this is not the cartoon peacefully arranged arms, and can still be a bloody KO. Also, everything the audience has said, and burk's attitude, suggests that it is a "loss", not a funeral. The obvious exception is Pablo.

22934: Drakian - Monday, July 27 2020 - 3:20 AM

I presume their "leader"is a white star hero that Goldman works under. source: page 1380

22935: Lord Incaros - Monday, July 27 2020 - 3:58 AM

@Tor
Correction, it's BURK that is getting a lot of attention. Pablo and Piper are still just a diplomat and his friend. People will just assume they hired someone very strong as a body guard. Compared to Burk they likely won't be considered very important in the long run by people interested in Burk. This could be spun in Pablo's favor. And I don't think "The Leader" Is Goldman. Goldman isn't...exactly leader material. At best, he is a mid/mini-boss. MAYBE reoccurring boss.

22936: Some guy - Monday, July 27 2020 - 4:26 AM

Goldman clearly isn't the leader in question. What would the point of explaining it to him be? He got the situation right in the face.

Also, i think somebody needs to explain the concept of "Goldman lost" to Wurm.

22938: AnonymousPerson - Monday, July 27 2020 - 5:47 AM

Skybreaker and Burk are so brothers.

22939: Deliverance - Monday, July 27 2020 - 6:47 AM

@Tor
I fail to see how having Goldman & Co. continuing to believe that they were being spied on by the heroland top is the "worst possible outcome" for Team Pablo.

Surely that is a better outcome than having them discover that it isn't the case and start wondering who else might have an interest in spying on them.

Pablo probably isn't too happy about the attention being paid to Burk right now, but once his team was discovered spying on Goldman and Goldman took countermeasures he ran out of good options.

Of those available, leaving team Goldman in the dark and focused on the wrong source of the threat to them and having the bodyguard he hired be acclaimed as a strong fighter isn't all that bad an outcome.

22940: Violet - Monday, July 27 2020 - 8:04 AM

I can see why Pablo would be concerned, but as long as they still think Burk is from the top, it's not that bad.

22941: steven - Monday, July 27 2020 - 8:17 AM

1. @neorice WHY DOES HE STILL HAVE PANTS ON?!
2. Burk == Saitama confirmed

22943: A Loquacious Theorizer - Monday, July 27 2020 - 12:00 PM

On the upside, the OR lady doesn't seem bored anymore.

22945: Pheristroch - Monday, July 27 2020 - 12:25 PM

I'm kind of interested to see Piper's reaction. She's been undervaluing Burk's abilities for a while, particularly against magic users. Now though she's seen him in a one-on-one fight with a powerful magic user from start to finish, all to help her. I'm not expecting her sarcastic quips to stop (just wouldn't feel right :P) but I'd like to think she'll have more respect for him and his strength now.

22946: Greatsword - Monday, July 27 2020 - 1:01 PM

Taunt to get bodied is the truest combo. Get rekt Goldman :D

22947: Sporf - Monday, July 27 2020 - 3:59 PM

^the PR lady ( no idea how or why it autocorrupted to OR)

22948: Tor - Monday, July 27 2020 - 4:46 PM

What people seems to be missing out on here, is how much attention its going to draw when a regular person casually beats one of the top heroes in the area. Goldman was a -powerful- magic user. Thats not someone random bodyguards can beat. Especially not in a place the wast majority of magic users seems to get hired by Heroland.

That extreme degree of attention Burk has drawn towards himself is going to rub off on his employer. Any competent group operating in the area is going to want to investigate Burk now. And by extention Pablo.

A lot of paranoid heroes will see this as a move made to discredit a rival. And want to investigate themselves.

22949: Woodledude - Monday, July 27 2020 - 4:48 PM

@A Loquacious Theorizer I honestly have no idea why I thought they were called Scarecrow, thank you for the correction. Maybe I was thinking of the Batman villain. I'm not even a huge Batman fan or anything.

I love this strip, perfect delivery.

22994: Mystik - Friday, July 31 2020 - 5:13 AM

I think that every hero from the catfight on the news Tobi was watching has now appeared (including the talking cat I think)

23292: wums - Saturday, August 29 2020 - 8:50 PM

damn i cant believe burk just fucking murdered goldman

23657: Tor - Sunday, October 11 2020 - 3:02 AM

Thats likely because you should not believe Burk just ***'ing murdered Goldman. Heroes dont kill people after all. They just knock them out.
