Oh I see! So Shalhia wasn't that insane. She didn't know from where the knife came from. So Maria must have tried to stab her with it and she is so incredible that she defended herself and hurted Maria in the process. And now, knowing what happened with Infinite and being very smart she will be able to realize what may have happened.

Infinite got killed with a gun, though (Pg. 2061). If Maria did it, then she has a gun, and if she has a gun, it'd be a little weird for her to try to kill the paladin with a knife instead.

Shalhia's original goal was literally to arrest Tobi. Granted, by this point, she is significantly less interested in doing that, but I don't think the ghoul can appreciate the distinction.

"Great source of XP" also refers to her - she is strong, and stronger enemies give more XP.

Does the ghoul have the body's memories? Or does the ghoul have a memory starting the moment that the ghoulification begins?

Tomas - Shaliah is a threat to whatever the ghouls want from Toby. The great order will surely imprision her and use from their own goals, far away for any ghoul

My guess is the magic clone here is not much of an actual threat to Shalia. He's made of magic and if Shalia is an esper then she should be able to disrupt him in addition to all her weird bio abilities.

Shalhia is not a threat to Toby. But her actions may prevent Toby doing something that the ghouls find crucial to happen.

@Melany Hmmm. Good point. But perhaps something happened and she lost her gun somehow. And Shalhia also have a big gun with her. Isn't that weird? If she indeed wanted to kill Maria, even being affected by the madness, wouldn't she use that? That remains to be seen.

@Whispers of Sorrow: Another good consideration; That actually bothered me too after I posted the comment. But perhaps she expected Shalhia to be completed defenseless and confused, almost in a static way, and not that she could react like that. I kind of hoped that that would be explained.
On one hand, this knife came from somewhere and Maria is acting very suspicious. On the other hand, Shalhia may have found it among Jay-Jay's things and she didn't even realize that. It makes more sense, I concur.
Actually, after considering both of your points, I think that's the more probable possibility.
