I don't think it was a spirit. Evyle has intuition beyond that - and also seems to have abilities that aren't "hear spirits".
On the other hand, Burk never gives off the slightest hint that he sees spirits unless someone calls him out on it - and he just started stuffing his face rather than savoring his food four panels ago. (Given that he loves violent confrontations as much as a ghoul, "Better eat quick so I can enjoy a good fight" is not an ooc reaction.)
So you might be right!
