Two opponents with unavoidable area attack at once might be a problem even for Burk... They definitely have the advantage now, at least based on what Morty knows, so continuing to fight isn't stupid any longer...

Now now, let's all be fair to Morty - He is indeed most probably suffering from an UNGODLY amount of brain damage.
That, and Vonesperda manipulating him... He probably jumped at the chance to get back at Burk for embarassing him, help Vonney, and probably had an inflated perception of how effective this would be.
Also, his glasses are pretty busted up, he might literally not be able to see very well, allowing him to construct a narrative in which Burk is worse for wear than he actually is.
What I'm saying is, Morty is a cornucopia of multiple flavors of stupid right now. Give him SOME credit.
