So the next time Noah enters someone's mind, he might have to deal with the Grey Child? That's not very comforting.

Wasn't the Grey Child a wandering spirit and not a nightmare?

At this point I wonder what can really motivate Noah long-term to focus on his magic, even immediate mortal danger only seems to motivate him in the short term.
Maybe he'll get a good talk from a magic using adult who's not crazy (Veda) or kind of a jerk (Garth) at the magic school.

@Tor magnus. I don't think we've been told what the Grey Child is. I don't think it's a wandering spirit though, as Noah doesn't have the ability to see those. (Can magic users even become Espers?)

The grey child was a spirit, and was very aware of the powers of Cheryl and Noah... which is very upsetting

I'm not sure that we've seen any indication in either direction.
Its design very strongly resembled Vonesperada, which makes "a wandering spirit" a plausibility - but it might be Chernyll's nightmare *of a wandering spirit*, and it kinda fits with her nightmare aesthetics.
It doesn't seem, idk what the word is - Dungeon Bossy - enough to be Chernyll's mage-spirit.

i don't think so, the grey child seemed to know chernyl. i think the grey child might be the spirit that is the source of her pandemonium power, chernyl's ciel effectively.

Key point is we dont actually -know- for sure who or what the Gray Child is. Except creepy.

On this page, I actually thought about how Noah's Spirit Capabilities fit into 13 (2 Foundational, 4 Basic, 4 Advanced & 3 Instinctive. Or, officially, 2 Basic, 4 Spirit Control, 4 Spirit Alteration & 3 Terminology Unknown) different Spirit Skills from page 690.
The 2 Foundational (Basic) are Spirit Summon & Spirit Erase, or the two ways to actively control your Spirit.
The 4 Basic (Spirit Control) are Focus, Cover, Surge & Mask. Focus enhances your body, Cover improves durability, Surge manipulates free-flowing Spirit and Mask hides & rejects Spirit.
Of the 4 Advanced (Spirit Alteration), the first is Clone, the second is Spirit Sense, the third is likely some sort of sensory enhancement, and the fourth is likely Solidification, like how Gaston makes those swords.
Noah's Dash likely utilises Surge, but I'm uncertain as to which of the other's it utilises, seeing arguments for both Focus and Cover, but not both.
Noah's Shield likely uses a mix of Surge, Mask & Cover. Surge to control the environmental Spirit, Mask to stop it from getting too close to him & Cover to reinforce it into a solid state. Alternatively, it could simply be Solidification in a sphere around him, thus theoretically giving him access to other forms of Spirit Alteration.

Y'know, I'd say that a fun way to differentiate the main characters of this comic is the old adage "some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon him."
Noah is obviously the last of those, but he still stands out from that crowd by -just how much effort- he makes fate put in.
The universe has to nag him more or less constantly, "TAKE THE BLOODY GREATNESS ALREADY YOU TWIT."

To be fair to Ciel, it's not clear that the nightmares have *any* power or threat while in someone's head, especially not if that person is lucid. After all, even the mindless ones never ripped Chernyl apart, and the Hollowman is Noah's prisoner even with his meta dream powers. It's also not clear if any nightmares could threaten Noah in other people's mindscapes given that he consigned them to his own.

Come on, Noah, you were main character material for a while, you can do it again!
