This guy seems to be a couple higher levels up that we first imagined

..yeah I'm not sure that's what happened, evyle.

Well I didn’t see this coming.
Hoping burks table has something good inside it cause this is ♫ beginning to look a lot like hearsay ♫
Alfen worked directly with the spirit for a while; I wonder if that’s why he wants that esper so much.
Maybe Mortimer is actually quite good at the spirit nullification thing.

Oh, you've destroyed Vonesperda off-panel? Well, I'm sure we'll have no choice but to trust your word on it; until we get a flashback to what actually happened, that is.
(PS: "Jost* a cog" typo.)

But, but... Burk promised his buddy! He promised Pedro that he would deliver the simping loser... he pwomised... ;^;

There was a horrible story of a Russian scientist that had a conifer tree root in his lungs. Google if you dare.

I think that Pablo wanted him mostly as a kind of witness. But he can persuade Evyle to be that witness instead.

It's funny because that last evyle dialogue line feels like a bad translation line from a manga, but it's not...
As for the speculation, it seems like Alfen wants to use Morty as a scapegoat for this whole situation. I guess the executives wouldn't be enough to explain everything.

Huh. I wasn't expecting that at all. What could he possibly want with him

Alfen is taking the simp?

Pretty sure he's a corpse by now, Alfen.
He's been out for a looong time.

When Burk objects, I'd give it better-than-even odds that Alfen agrees to go clear this up with Pablo.
Which then makes me wonder if Guy could beat Alfen in a fight. I'd say yes he could, likely even easily. However, Guy would avoid that fight at all costs.
It would more likely end up as a battle of wits, and who knows who'd win that. Guy and Pablo as a team have the skill advantage, but Alfen has more information.
But even more likely, there's no conflict at all because Pablo no longer needs Morty.

An entirely reasonable price. (Or, possibly, a bargain.) I suspect there will be consequences, but quite likely this is a net improvement of circumstance even at the cost.

@The whole plants rooting inside people's bodies thing.

...Assuming Burk doesn't try to get Morty back.
