He raises some fine points, but the way he's presenting them isn't really all that much different from what they've been doing to Held to begin with.
It's not just the creepy expressions, it's the way he seems intent on forcefully driving the conversation. Both with Held - especially the bit about making HIM proud - and here with how he's handling the situation, it just raises all sorts of red flags.
Of course, it's possible that Valiant genuinely means well, but just isn't well adjusted socially. From what it sounds like, it seems he's spent most of his childhood here, and the warrior culture master Z seems to cultivate isn't a terribly great way to raise children. So who knows.
