Somewhere deep down, I'm hoping that Noel's nightmare creature is actually comically unscary, and that he's just afraid of it because of the trauma he endured.

However, what you should be saying is "I have no plan to wander off randomly in order to move away from the people that are trying to talk to me because I fear social contact more than I fear horrible death at the hands of literal nightmare monsters", because that much *isn't* obvious on your part.
