Doesn't 32 for guesses plus 8 for hiding give you 40? Where does the remaining 10 come from?
15609: Baprr - Saturday, January 6 2018 - 2:26 AM
Wait, 32? X for guessing the initial object, 8 for guessing the correct number of people in each quadrant, 40 for guessing the positions of everyone, 8 for hiding. Wouldn't that make 56+X? Or was that either the number of people, or their position?
I love your comic, btw. Keep up the good work)

I dont see how 32 + 8 can end up as 50. that is plot convenience taken a little too far.

Typo, should be 42 + 8.

Is Garth not allowing for any of the children having discovered his own location?
As for the terribleness, I'll be surprised if princess scored any points for a start, the poor little sod. I suspect Felix and the eye bleeder are deficient in the hope department, also.
Noah must be into the forties from spirit sense alone(incl points scored earlier), even in a worst case scenario, while Natalie must surely have made the stealth maximum if nothing else.
Here's hopin' Cherry, Alita and Hevel scored well.
15615: Tnoz - Saturday, January 6 2018 - 4:04 AM
Princess and Felix could at least have two points from neither one detecting the other (because they couldn't detect anything), as well as from Natalie.
15616: Saiko - Saturday, January 6 2018 - 8:50 AM
Speculation: And then Noah gets a technical disqualification, and Veda has to save him, thus creating a debt of gratitude, so he has to do her bidding, like a dog :)

Saiko,
I loved that speculation of yours. Now, is cannon in my head.

There are nine competitors in total, so for each one, there are 8 competitors to detect and hide from.
1 point for each competitor who doesn't detect you. Maximum theoretical total: 8.
1 point for each competitor you correctly guess in a quadrant. Maximum theoretical total: 8 again.
5 points for each competitor you specifically name for a bunker. Maximum theoretical total: 5x8=40.
We arrive at 56 already.
Alternatively, the 5 points for named guesses in precise bunker replaces the 1 point for nameless guess in quadrant. Then we get a total 48 points maximum, and that gives logically two points for guessing the object to reach the total of 50.
Alita needs 22 points. I don't think she'll reach them but she should be in the high 30s or low 40s. Cherry needs a mere 13 points, so should be there comfortably. Though she's also at risk of losing points from incorrect guesses. Hevel should get at least 6 or 7 points for non-detection, which put him comfortably in the mid-40s. If he's been good at spirit sight, he should be the one with the highest score. Felix, Gaston, and Lauren are the most at risk of not having gained points from that exercise. (Besides, probably, the one point from Natalie not detecting anyone.) Though if Noah were a cool guy, he could intercede with Veda to get Felix and Gaston some bonus points for detecting his spirit form. Natalie should get her first points from that exercise for not having been detected.
Basically, Lauren should be the one in the worst situation, because he doesn't have Natalie's weird power (she's only kept in this class to stay under observation until they can figure what her deal is, so her low score isn't a life-or-death issue for her).
Hopefully none of the kid lost points to incorrect wild guesses.

@Whispers of Sorrow: presumably, kids do get points for detecting Garth and/or not getting detected by Garth; but they don't get any point for detecting themselves and/or not managing to detect themselves! For each kid, there are 7 other kids + Garth, total 8 people to find and mask from.

@someone Knowing Felix, he is very likely to guess incorrectly and lose a heap of points.

@someone: Right, seven pupils, one teacher. But how do we reach forty two points for sense? 1p for each accurate quadrant guess, plus 5p for each accurate bunker guess, times seven pupils is 42p. And Garth does specifically refer to the points earned for finding the other pupils in panel five. It's worth noting that he wasn't expecting them to be pass the first hurdle sense wise. He was in the game so they'd be sure to have someone to hide from.
After the trio of suck, I'd guess the order of stealth points is Alita (who was emitting a small amount of spirit), Cherry (no visible spirit radiated), Hevel (harder to spot than Garth), Natalie (weirdly invisible) and with Noah slotted in somewhere near the top.
I find it interesting that, given the way the scoring works, Noah wouldn't have been able to save himself with just masking.
That Veda suggested this assignment to Garth makes it seem like she might some idea that Noah's power would give him an advantage there and was trying to pressure him into using it

So as a reminder, last time we had:
Alita: 28
Cherry: 37
Felix: 22
Gaston: 32
Hevel: 38
Lauren: 20
Natalie: 0
Noah: 18
Alita needs 22 points. I don't think she'll reach them but she should be in the high 30s or low 40s. Cherry needs a mere 13 points, so should be there comfortably.
