Who are these people? Will they have a major role? Or will they die within two pages? Who knows?
Either way, it seems like it's about time for the Mage-Baron story arc to really get moving, let's see where this'll all go.

I don't know why, Burk just seems to remind me of Chuck Norris. I can totally imagine him roundhouse-kicking someone in the face.

...Or he'll be using the log as a distraction while he paddles in front of it, a rope tied 'round his waist to pull it along... By the time they get to the log, he'll be long gone.

I love clever guard characters! Kinda humanizes them in my opinion.
Honestly I don't think Burk is going to kill too many people in this little adventure. His awesome'll probably immobalize everyone anyway.
