Musing: buffer & 2015

Yo!

There's a pretty good chance I'll have photoshop available again this thursday, which'll allow me to continue producing pages a bit faster than I had expected. (thankfully!)

If this is the case I might play around a bit with the possibility of sometimes slightly increasing the update rate.

Obviously I'm not gonna permanently increase the update rate, as that'd kill my buffer. But any time my buffer's sitting pretty (over 150 pages is what I'm thinking, but I'm feeling generous so I might try something before.)

what I'm thinking is possibly tying a week with more frequent updates to reaching a certain rank on top web comics. (e.g. breaking the top 100 before the end of January.)

How do you guys feel about this idea? Let me know. ^^

Kind regards,

Neorice

I'd say increase the upload rate until the buffer starts running thin.

Moar comics = moar awesomeness.

@Tom

Not gonna do that. During extremely busy times my buffer can shrink * a lot* which is why I care about keeping it over 150.

(I've actually had my buffer shrink over 50 pages in the past, for example.)

I'll gladly upvote you for every comic you post, you just need to remind me in the description :D. I bet I am not the only one...

Especially that first month, just to create the habit and to get you some new readers. Afterwards you don't need to keep on begging, just send us a cool incentive every 2 weeks or so (and remind us about it weekly).
People will vote for ANY incentive, even if it is just scaled up characters without anything extra. But it gives you a reason to remind them about voting ;)

On a side note, why is Frogatto.com offline??

Oh, and once you are going to welcome a lot of new readers at once: be friendly to them! Add an about/new readers info / whatever page, where you link to the first page of Noah, tell something about the comic, state how long this has been going and how many pages it has, etc... so people have a reason to dive in!

More comics per week would be nice, obviously ^^

How would you release more comics a week? like, what would be the schedule? I assume you wouldn't post like 6-7 comics a week cause then your buffer dies within 6 months. XD
I'm guessing you'd probably do something like add Saturday to the update schedule.

I think this is a great idea, as long as it doesn't stress You or the buffer too much ^^

(To the top 100!)

@Pirate-Rob

What I'm thinking is setting a goal within a certain month (e.g. top 100 before january ends)

Then as a reward for the following week, there'll be 5 updates rather than 3. (so mon,tues,wed,thurs,fri)

I'll do these challenges more/less frequently depending on how quickly I manage to grow my buffer, but I'm setting 150 buffer pages as the "Zero point".

I'm not doing a permanent update-increase as 3 pages a week is the most comfortable speed at which I can still keep my buffer growing *when I'm busy*.

From what I understand you are holding on a huge load of comics, that just keeps on growing bigger and you don't want it to shrink by showing it to us, so you are gonna tease us with it, get us excited and make us do things for it with the hope that maybe we get a peek of it.

I would love this. My only complaint has been the slow progression of the story.

Also note your rank dropped over the holiday break. I think most of your fans are 9-5 people like me :-P

@Steven

Obviously I'd rather update faster as well, but I need a strong buffer to keep the update rate constant.

Now that my buffer's this strong I can experiment with different ways to sporadically update more frequently though.
