Now about those kids.

Let's kidnap a bunch of orphans and turn them into child soldiers!

18033: Saiko - Wednesday, August 8 2018 - 12:12 AM

They will need a youth serum to turn them into child soldiers, I think.

18034: MatthewTheLucky - Wednesday, August 8 2018 - 12:26 AM

So he's been at this for at least 12 years, and they don't know who's with him, or when he started.

The fact that they only expect to find magic kids is a good example of the inability to plan that leads to being unable to catch elderly vandals.

18035: Z2 - Wednesday, August 8 2018 - 12:32 AM

Are they even child soldiers anymore if some of them have been there 12 years (or possibly more)? Past a certain point they just become regular soldiers.

18036: Sid - Wednesday, August 8 2018 - 12:39 AM

Cherry gives zero fucks

18037: Whispers of Sorrow - Wednesday, August 8 2018 - 12:40 AM

That's not entirely accurate Noah, you do know she can set things on fire.

18038: Briggs - Wednesday, August 8 2018 - 1:51 AM

Oh joy, i can't wait for exactly everything to go wrong.

18039: Tor - Wednesday, August 8 2018 - 2:41 AM

As a lot of people suspected, what they really want is more magical children. Of course, they would likely have those themselves already if they had not been killing them.

18040: Bisected - Wednesday, August 8 2018 - 3:39 AM

If he's been active for at least 12 years, you'd think at least one of recruits would have tried to backstab him...

18041: Pete - Wednesday, August 8 2018 - 3:46 AM

They should just do slave rai... I mean liberate the magical children from other countries during very peaceful but also quick and unannounced visits.

18042: Cluedrew - Wednesday, August 8 2018 - 6:12 AM

Everyone, can I get your odds over under:

Malhart is a better person than most people in the Veda project.

18043: Tor - Wednesday, August 8 2018 - 9:29 AM

Bisected, why on earth would someone turn against the person who resqued them from a tyrannical empire and a death sentence?

And yes, Malhart is Professer X, these morons want to steal some of his oldest x-men. Like in this case a now adult Phoen-- i mean Chernyl.

Either there is a hidden side to this plan. Or there is going to be much screaming and people running around screaming "help im on fire!"

18044: Tom - Wednesday, August 8 2018 - 10:35 AM

@Cluedrew - Not a high bar to jump over, but remember, this being Neorice's story, I'm sure that Malhart will be far from a simple "good guy".

18045: Chameon - Wednesday, August 8 2018 - 10:47 AM

@Bisected: Who's to say Veda isn't the individual who backstabbed him? It places a powerful individual, just on the periphery of the Empire, with serious magical knowledge and expertise, and a desire to stick it to him, in charge of a massive magical warrior initiative, in the Empire's name.

18046: MatthewTheLucky - Wednesday, August 8 2018 - 11:03 AM

99:1.

18047: Saiko - Wednesday, August 8 2018 - 11:06 AM

The first photo is the older, evil brother of Hevel, right?

18048: SomeUnregPunk - Wednesday, August 8 2018 - 11:10 AM

@ Tor : they probably haven't been outright killing all the magic kids. Sure they may have been killing some of them to keep up appearances. But the rest seem to part of the secret masked army of the empire.

18049: Netraam - Wednesday, August 8 2018 - 11:19 AM

@Cluedrew
I have not a clue, but if pressed on the issue I'd go for the option "There is no Malhart", with a side note of "There may never have been a Malhart". Just because something is said, doesn't mean it is.

@Bisected
He has a headstart of 30 years on the other blights. The empire doesn't really have the most solid information. She might've been the first rescued (12 years 'at it'), but I doubt it.

18050: Whispers of Sorrow - Wednesday, August 8 2018 - 1:30 PM

@Z2: Potentially, yes, twelve years on she could still be a teenager. It depends on how old she was when her powers emerged you see.

18051: Tor Magnus - Wednesday, August 8 2018 - 2:16 PM

@Whispers of Sorrow
That tells us nothing. Anyone can set things on fire.

18052: Datren - Wednesday, August 8 2018 - 4:46 PM

Why do I feel like I've seen the person in the middle picture before?

18053: Aston - Wednesday, August 8 2018 - 11:02 PM

Malhart died of old age already. Shocker!

18054: Bisected - Thursday, August 9 2018 - 1:24 AM

Sheer numbers: Sooner or later, in that amount of time, he has to have recruited someone that decided the short turn gains of turning him in seemed worth it.

18055: Tor - Thursday, August 9 2018 - 1:47 AM

@SomeUnregPunk You mean the royal guard? They dont have magic as far as all the evidence we have points to. Its part of why the need to send in barely trained kids.

I do simply love the idea that Malhart has died of old age a few yers ago surrounded by his adoptive children. Who now continue his work of smuggling magic kids out.

18056: Whispers of Sorrow - Thursday, August 9 2018 - 9:30 PM

@Tor Magnus: Are you suggesting she knocked over a candle? Well even that tells is something, that her power is capable of interacting with physical objects.

18060: Tssha - Friday, August 10 2018 - 1:25 AM

@Tor Magnus
Except they explicitly said that it was her magic powers that set the house on fire (accidentally, of course). If they're saying it outright, they likely have good reason to be certain about saying it. Not that they can be absolutely certain, of course...

18066: Klaus - Friday, August 10 2018 - 5:13 AM

@Tssha
"Can set things on fire" is SOME knowledge, but it doesn't amount to much at the end. Is she throwing fireballs? Is she making things combust without prior visual warning, either remotely or by touch?

I mean, its better than nothing, but after 12 years of what amounts to urban survival training?

18070: Cluedrew - Friday, August 10 2018 - 9:06 AM

@Tom: We are reaching the point where "Malhart is in fact just that nice" might be the twist. Or was if the other theories about Malhart pan out.

But it wouldn't be the first time I've seen the twist on the twist being everything is straight again. Or paranoid readers coming up with conspiracy theories at the drop of a hat.

Looking back at this comment, I entirely brushed off Chernyl, because I didn’t think they’d be important until much later, and probably had relatively decent powers. Essentially, nothing special or particularly terrifying.

Boy was I wrong.

35422: player_03 - Wednesday, February 22 2023 - 3:11 PM

@Chase I was in the exact same boat. Just yesterday, I was wondering when we'd finally get to see Chernyl.

36036: Eight - Tuesday, April 4 2023 - 6:25 AM

@player_03 Chernyl is waiting for you at https://neorice.com/hoh_3030 - at least something that looks like Chernyl.
